On Labour Weekend I went to the Central North Island Champs with the Thames Swim Club. We left on Friday 20th of October. The club came down in three vans. One for the boys, one for the girls and one for the parents. When we got to Rotorua we drove to the Oasis Hostel where we were staying for the whole weekend. The Oasis Hostel is not far from the pool we were competing at.
On Friday night I had two Races and they were 50 Freestyle and 50 Breaststroke. In my 50 Free I came 12th overall for 11 year old boys and in my 50 Breast I came 9th overall for 11 year old boys. They were both timed finals which means that there was no heats.
On Saturday morning I had 2 heats and one timed final. They were 200 Im, 100 Breast and the timed final 100 Free. I made finals for both of my heats and got a little PB for my timed final. The finals would be swum that night.
When we got back to the hostel after the morning session we had lasagna for lunch and it was delicious. After our delicious lunch we had to either sleep or rest for an hour and a half. When the time was up and we were fully rested we had get changed into our togs, pack our bags and walk down to the pool.
When we got to the pool we did dry land stretches and then did our pool warm up. In my 200 IM Final I came 8th overall and in my 100 Breast I came 5th overall.
On Sunday morning I was in one heat and one timed final. They were 200 Breast (heat) and 100 IM (final). In my 200 I was coming dead last,, but then in my last 50 I went from last to third! And that last 50 was faster than my first 50 which had a dive! In my 100 IM I swam like a fish trying to get away from a hungry shark in the middle of the ocean. From start to finish I was first all the way. I came 5th overall and got a 5 second PB.
After I swam I got changed and started the long drive home with my Mum. O the way home we stopped of at Mcdonalds for dinner.
